Tutorial: search by address
This tutorial walks you through searching by street address to find survey control marks near a specific location. This is useful when planning fieldwork at a known site.
Before you start
- Ensure you are signed in to Benchmrk.
- You need an internet connection for address geocoding.
Steps
1. Open the search bar
Tap the Search bar at the top of the map screen.
2. Type an address
Enter a street address, suburb, or place name. For example:
- "42 Bridge Street, Sydney"
- "Federation Square, Melbourne"
- "King William Street, Adelaide"
Address suggestions appear below the search bar as you type, powered by Mapbox geocoding.

3. Select an address result
Tap the address you want from the suggestions list. The map centres on the geocoded location.
4. Browse nearby marks
Survey control marks in the visible area are displayed with their jurisdiction-specific icons. Pan and zoom the map to explore marks in the vicinity.

5. Tap a mark
Tap any mark pin to view its summary card, then tap the card to open the full details panel.
Tips
Address search repositions the map but does not filter marks. If you see too many marks, use Filters to narrow the display to specific mark types or statuses.
The geocoded address location is approximate and represents the street address, not a survey mark. Marks displayed on the map are the actual survey control marks near that address.
Next steps
- Search for a mark — find a specific mark by name or ID
- Navigate to a mark — get directions to a selected mark
- Export mark data — download mark data for your project
