Filters and sorting

Benchmrk includes a comprehensive filter system that lets you narrow the marks displayed on the map and in search results. Filters are jurisdiction-specific, reflecting the different classification systems used by each survey authority.

Filter categories

Benchmrk organises filters into categories and subcategories that reflect each jurisdiction's classification system. Within each category, you can select specific values, date ranges, or toggle options to narrow your results.

Filter screens

Benchmrk provides six filter screens for different filter types:

  1. Filters — the main filter overview showing all available categories
  2. FiltersDate — date-based filtering (e.g. published date ranges)
  3. FiltersOption — toggle-style options for quick filtering
  4. FiltersSettings — filter configuration and reset options
  5. FiltersSubcategories — drill into subcategories within a filter category
  6. FiltersValues — select specific values within a subcategory

Using filters

  3. The map returns to showing all available marks.

Jurisdiction-specific filters

Filter categories and options vary by jurisdiction because each survey authority uses different classification systems. When you switch jurisdictions, the available filters update to match the new jurisdiction's data schema.

For example:

  • NSW may offer filters for mark type, mark symbol, GDA class, and AHD class.
  • QLD may offer filters for mark type description, mark condition, and adjustment status.
  • VIC may offer filters for status, symbol, and GNSS suitability.

Filter persistence

Your filter selections are saved automatically and persist between app sessions.

  • Filters are saved per jurisdiction — switching jurisdictions loads the saved filters for that jurisdiction.
  • Clearing filters removes the saved configuration for the current jurisdiction.

Tips for effective filtering

  • Start with broad filters and narrow down as needed.
  • Use mark type filters to focus on specific mark categories (e.g. only PMs or only BMs).
  • Use status filters to exclude destroyed or not-found marks when planning fieldwork.
  • Remember to clear filters if marks you expect to see are not appearing on the map.
