Tutorial: search for a survey mark
This tutorial walks you through finding a survey control mark by name or mark ID.
Before you start
- Ensure you are signed in to Benchmrk.
- Select the correct jurisdiction for the mark you are looking for. You can change this from Profile → Jurisdiction.
Steps
1. Open the search bar
Tap the Search bar at the top of the map screen. The search screen appears with a text input field.

2. Enter your search term
Type the mark name or mark ID. For example:
- By name: Type "Flinders Peak" (VIC) or "Mount Keira" (NSW)
- By ID: Type the mark name or identifier for your jurisdiction — for example, a nine-figure number in VIC, or a mark name in other states
Results appear as you type, showing the mark name, type, and distance from your location.
3. Select a result
Tap the mark you want from the results list. The search screen closes and the map centres on the selected mark.

4. View the summary card
A summary card appears at the bottom of the screen showing the mark's name, type, status, and distance.
5. Open full details
Tap the summary card to expand the full Point details panel, which shows:
- Horizontal coordinates (
GDA2020andGDA94) - Vertical data (
AHD) - Mark metadata (type, status, order, uncertainty)
Tips
If your search returns no results, check that you have the correct jurisdiction selected and that no filters are hiding the mark. See Troubleshooting: search returns no results.
