Tutorial: Using the Ledger

The Ledger is your personal collection of saved survey marks — think of it as bookmarks for points you want to track or revisit. This tutorial walks you through opening the Ledger, understanding its interface, and saving a point. Each step includes a live action link you can click to follow along.

Prerequisites

  • You should be logged in to your Benchmrk account. The Ledger requires authentication to save and retrieve points.
  • Familiarity with searching for marks is helpful but not required.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Step 1: Open the Ledger

Let's start by opening the Ledger panel. Click the link below to open the Ledger / My Snapshots panel in the sidebar.

Open the Ledger

The Ledger panel should now be visible in the sidebar. If you have not saved any marks yet, it will be empty — that is expected.

Step 2: Understand the Ledger interface

The Ledger panel displays your saved survey marks as a list. For each saved point, you can see:

  • Mark name or ID — The identifier of the saved survey mark.
  • Mark type — The type of mark, shown with symbology icons.
  • Tags — Any custom tags you have added to organise your saved marks.
  • Snapshot history — A record of point-in-time captures for the mark.

You can scroll through your saved marks, search within the Ledger, and click any entry to fly to that mark on the map.

Step 3: Find a mark to save

Before saving a point, you need to find one. Let's search for a mark. Click the link below to focus the search bar and pre-fill it with a sample mark ID.

Search for TS 6844

Press Enter to execute the search, then click the first result to open the point details panel.

Step 4: Save the mark to your Ledger

With the point details panel open, look for the Save to Ledger button in the action bar at the bottom of the panel. Click it to add this mark to your Ledger.

Once saved, the mark appears in your Ledger list. You can add tags to organise it and create snapshots to capture its current state.

Step 5: View your saved marks

Let's go back to the Ledger to confirm the mark was saved. Click the link below to open the Ledger panel again.

Open the Ledger

You should now see the mark you just saved in the list. Click on it to fly to its location on the map and view its details.

Step 6: Close the panels

When you are done reviewing your Ledger, you can close all sidebar panels to return to the full map view. Click the link below to close all panels.

Close all panels
tip

Ledger entries persist across sessions. When you log back in, all your saved marks and snapshots will still be there.
