Tutorial: Using AI Assist
AI Assist uses AI to analyse survey marks near a location you choose. You drop a pin on the map, configure your preferences, and receive intelligent recommendations. This tutorial walks you through the full workflow with live action links.
Prerequisites
- You must be logged in with an active subscription that includes AI analysis quota. Check your usage quota in the account menu.
- Select the correct jurisdiction from the header dropdown.
Step-by-step walkthrough
Step 1: Activate AI pin-drop mode
Let's start by activating AI Assist mode. Click the link below to switch the map into pin-drop mode, where your next click on the map will place an analysis pin.
Activate AI AssistThe map cursor should change to indicate pin-drop mode is active. You are now ready to place a pin.
Step 2: Place a pin on the map
Click anywhere on the map to place your analysis pin. Choose a location where you expect survey marks to be nearby — for example, near a road intersection or a known survey area.
For best results, place the pin in an area with visible survey marks on the map. Urban areas and major infrastructure corridors tend to have higher mark density.
Step 3: Configure your preferences
After placing the pin, the AI preferences panel appears. Configure the following options to tailor the analysis:
- Project type — Select the type of project (e.g. construction, boundary survey, engineering).
- Priority — Choose what matters most (accuracy, proximity, or a balance).
- Max distance — Set the maximum search radius from the pin.
- Mark status — Filter by mark status (e.g. only active marks).
- Time window — Limit results to marks surveyed within a time period.
- Horizontal/Vertical class minimums — Set minimum accuracy class requirements.
- Additional notes — Add free-text context for the AI to consider.
See the AI preferences deep dive for detailed explanations of each option.
Step 4: Run the analysis
Once your preferences are set, click the Find Best Marks button to start the AI analysis. The system sends your pin location and preferences to the backend, which uses AI to evaluate nearby marks and generate recommendations.
Analysis may take a few seconds depending on the density of marks in the area. A loading indicator shows while the AI is processing.
Step 5: Review the results
When the analysis completes, the results panel displays the AI's recommendations. Each recommended mark includes:
- The mark name or ID
- A relevance score or ranking
- A brief explanation of why the AI recommended this mark
- Distance from your pin location
Click any recommended mark to view its full details and see it highlighted on the map.
Step 6: Close panels when done
After reviewing the AI results, you can close all panels to return to the full map view. Click the link below to close all sidebar panels.
