Tutorial: Search by Mark Name

This tutorial walks you through finding a survey mark by its name or ID using the search bar. Each step includes a live action link that drives the app directly from this page — just click and follow along.

Prerequisites

  • Make sure you have selected the correct jurisdiction from the dropdown in the header. Mark IDs are jurisdiction-specific, so results depend on the active state or territory.
  • This tutorial uses NSW examples. Select NSW before starting.

Step-by-step walkthrough

First, let's bring up the search input so you can type a mark query. Clicking the link below will focus the search bar in the app.

Focus the search bar

The search bar is now active and ready for input. You should see the cursor blinking in the search field at the top of the map.

Step 2: Search for a specific mark

Now let's search for a real mark. The link below will focus the search bar and pre-fill it with the NSW mark ID TS 6844. After clicking, press Enter to execute the search.

Search for TS 6844
tip

Mark IDs vary by jurisdiction. NSW uses identifiers like TS 6844 or PM 12345. Check the jurisdictions reference for naming conventions in other states.

Step 3: Review the results

After pressing Enter, the results panel appears in the sidebar showing matching marks. Each result displays:

  • The mark name or ID
  • The mark type (shown with symbology icons)
  • A brief status summary

Click any result to open the full point details panel and fly the map to that mark's location.

Mark search supports partial matching. Let's try searching with just a fragment. The link below pre-fills the search bar with TS — after clicking, press Enter to see all marks whose ID starts with those letters.

info

If your search returns no results, check that the correct jurisdiction is selected and that the Layer Manager is not hiding the mark type you are looking for.
