Tutorial: Search by Address

This tutorial walks you through finding survey marks near a street address. Address search geocodes the location and returns the closest marks, sorted by distance. Each step includes a live action link you can click to follow along in the app.

Prerequisites

  • Select the correct jurisdiction from the header dropdown. Address search results are scoped to the active state or territory.
  • This tutorial uses NSW examples. Select NSW before starting.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Let's start by focusing the search input. Click the link below to activate the search bar in the app.

Focus the search bar

The search bar is now active. Switch to the Address tab if it is not already selected.

Step 2: Enter an address

Type a street address into the search field. For example, try:

1 Macquarie Street, Sydney NSW

Press Enter to search. The geocoding service converts the address to coordinates and returns the nearest survey marks.

Step 3: Pre-fill a sample address

You can also use an action link to pre-fill the search bar with a sample address. Click the link below to populate the search field with a Sydney address, then press Enter to execute the search.

Search near Macquarie Street
tip

Address search works best with specific, unambiguous addresses. Including the suburb and state helps the geocoder return accurate results.

Step 4: Review the results

The results panel shows survey marks sorted by distance from the geocoded address. Each result displays:

  • The mark name or ID
  • The mark type icon (symbology)
  • The approximate distance from the searched address

Click any result to open the point details panel and fly the map to that mark.

Step 5: Understand how filters apply

The Layer Manager filters also apply to address search results. If certain mark types are hidden, they will not appear in address search results either.

info

If your address search returns no results or unexpected results, check the address search troubleshooting page for common causes like ambiguous addresses or jurisdiction mismatch.
