Viewing Point Details

When you find a survey mark on the map, you can click it to open the point details panel. This panel shows everything Benchmrk knows about that mark.

Opening the point details panel

There are two ways to view a mark's details:

  1. Click a point on the map — Click any survey mark icon on the map canvas. The point details panel slides open in the sidebar.
  2. Click a search result — After performing a search, click any result in the results list. The map flies to the mark and the details panel opens.

What you will see

The point details panel is organised into several sections:

Identity fields

At the top of the panel, you will see the mark's primary identification:

  • Mark name / ID — The official identifier for this mark (e.g. TS 6844 in NSW).
  • Mark type — The category of survey mark (benchmark, trigonometric station, permanent survey mark, etc.).
  • Status — Whether the mark is active, destroyed, or has another status.

Metadata fields

Below the identity section, the panel displays metadata specific to the selected jurisdiction. The fields shown depend on the jurisdiction's data schema and are translated into readable labels by the Field Map system.

Common metadata fields include:

  • Establishment date
  • Maintaining authority
  • Mark condition
  • Horizontal and vertical class information

Coordinate information

The panel displays the mark's coordinates, typically including:

  • Latitude and longitude — Geographic coordinates in decimal degrees.
  • Easting and northing — Grid coordinates in the Map Grid of Australia (MGA) projection.
  • Datum — The geodetic datum the coordinates reference (usually GDA2020 or GDA94).
tip

Coordinate values are displayed as provided by the jurisdiction's data source. Some jurisdictions may include additional coordinate representations.

Action bar

At the bottom of the point details panel, the action bar provides quick access to:

  • Save to Ledger — Bookmark this mark for later reference.
  • Reports — Download available reports for this mark (availability varies by jurisdiction).
  • Export — Export the mark's data in supported formats.
