Interface overview

Benchmrk's interface centres on an interactive map with search, filtering, and mark detail controls. This page walks through the main screen layout on both iPhone and iPad.

Main map screen

The map screen is the primary view you see after signing in. It displays survey control marks for your selected jurisdiction on a Mapbox-powered map.

Main map screen

Top bar

  • Search bar — tap to search for marks by name, ID, address, or coordinates. See Mark search for details.
  • Filter button — tap to open the filter panel and narrow results by mark type, status, order, and other criteria. See Filters and sorting.
  • Profile menu — tap your profile icon to access account settings, jurisdiction selection, support, and more.

Map area

The central map area displays:

  • Survey mark pins — jurisdiction-specific icons indicating mark type and status. Each supported jurisdiction (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, TAS, NT, ACT) has its own icon set.
  • Your location — a blue dot showing your current position (when Location Services is enabled).
  • Basemap — choose between hybrid (satellite + labels) and terrain styles via the layer manager.

Map controls

  • Location button — tap to centre the map on your current location. Tap again to cycle through tracking modes: location, heading, and tracking.
  • Layer manager — switch between basemap styles and control mark layer visibility.
  • AR button — open the augmented reality view to see nearby marks through your camera (iOS 14.0+ required).

Bottom area

When you tap a mark pin on the map, a summary card appears at the bottom of the screen showing:

  • Mark name or identifier
  • Mark type and status
  • Distance from your current location
  • Tap the card to open the full Point details panel

iPad layout

On iPad, Benchmrk takes advantage of the larger display:

  • The search results and mark details can appear in a sidebar alongside the map, rather than overlaying it.
  • The map occupies more screen area, making it easier to view marks across a wider region.
  • Filter panels and export options display in popovers rather than full-screen sheets.

tip

Rotate your iPad to landscape orientation for the best map viewing experience when working with dense mark clusters.

The typical workflow through the interface follows this pattern:

  1. Select jurisdiction — choose your state or territory from the profile menu.
  2. Search or browse — use the search bar or pan the map to find marks.
  3. Tap a mark — view the summary card at the bottom.
  4. Open details — tap the card to see full mark information.
  5. Take action — navigate, export, share, or view in AR.
