Mark search
Benchmrk provides several ways to find survey control marks within your selected jurisdiction. All searches are performed through the search bar at the top of the map screen.
Search methods
Search by mark name
Type a mark name (or partial name) into the search bar. The app queries the jurisdiction's API and returns matching marks.
For example:
- "Mount Keira" in NSW
- "Flinders" in VIC
- "Parliament" in ACT
Search by mark ID
Enter a mark's unique identifier to find it directly. The identifier format varies by jurisdiction:
Each jurisdiction uses its own identifier format. You can search by mark name or mark ID — the app matches against the identifier fields for the active jurisdiction.
Search by proximity
When your location is available, search results are sorted by distance from your current position. The distance to each mark is displayed in the results list.

Search flow
- Tap the Search bar on the map screen.
- The search screen appears with a text input field.
- Type your search term — results update as you type.
- Results display the mark name or ID, type, and distance from your location.
- Tap a result to dismiss the search screen and centre the map on the selected mark.
If you get too many results, use Filters to narrow down by mark type, status, or other criteria before searching.
Search results display
Each search result shows:
- Mark name or identifier — the primary identifier for the jurisdiction
- Mark type — e.g. PM, TS, BM, SSM, PSM
- Status — current condition or status of the mark
- Distance — straight-line distance from your current location (when available)
Tap any result to view it on the map. From there, tap the summary card to open the full Point details panel.
