Accessibility
Benchmrk supports iOS accessibility features to help all users interact with the app effectively. This page covers the key accessibility capabilities available.
VoiceOver support
VoiceOver is Apple's built-in screen reader that describes what is on screen and helps users navigate by touch. Benchmrk supports VoiceOver for:
- Navigation controls — buttons, tabs, and menu items are labelled for VoiceOver.
- Search results — mark names, types, and distances are read aloud.
- Mark details — coordinate values, metadata fields, and action buttons are accessible.
- Alerts and dialogs — confirmation dialogs and error messages are announced.
Enabling VoiceOver
- Open Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver on your device.
- Toggle VoiceOver on.
- Use standard VoiceOver gestures to navigate Benchmrk.
You can also activate VoiceOver quickly by triple-pressing the side button (if configured in Settings → Accessibility → Accessibility Shortcut).
Dynamic Type
Benchmrk respects the Dynamic Type setting on your device, allowing you to increase or decrease text size across the app.
Adjusting text size
- Open Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size on your device.
- Drag the slider to your preferred text size.
- Text in Benchmrk adjusts accordingly.
For even larger text, enable Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Accessibility Sizes.
Additional iOS accessibility features
Benchmrk works with these standard iOS accessibility features:
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Bold Text | Makes text heavier and easier to read |
| Increase Contrast | Enhances visual contrast between elements |
| Reduce Motion | Minimises animations and motion effects |
| Reduce Transparency | Reduces translucent backgrounds for better readability |
| Switch Control | Navigate using adaptive switches |
| AssistiveTouch | Custom touch controls for users with motor difficulties |
Map accessibility
The Mapbox map view has some inherent accessibility limitations:
- Map pins and overlays may not be fully accessible via VoiceOver.
- Use the search feature and mark details panel as the primary way to access mark information when using assistive technologies.
- The list-based search results provide a more accessible alternative to browsing the map visually.
If you encounter accessibility issues while using Benchmrk, please contact support through Profile → Support to report them. Accessibility improvements are an ongoing priority.
