Address search

Benchmrk supports searching by street address using Mapbox geocoding. This is useful when you know the general location where you need to find survey marks but do not know specific mark names or IDs.

How address search works

When you type an address into the search bar, Benchmrk uses the Mapbox Geocoder to convert the address into geographic coordinates. The map then centres on that location, displaying any survey control marks in the surrounding area.

  1. Tap the Search bar on the map screen.
  2. Type a street address, suburb, or place name — e.g. "42 Bridge Street, Sydney" or "Federation Square, Melbourne".
  3. Address suggestions appear below the search bar as you type, powered by Mapbox geocoding.
  4. Tap an address result to move the map to that location.

Viewing nearby marks

After the map centres on the geocoded address, survey control marks in the visible area are displayed with their jurisdiction-specific icons. You can:

  • Pan and zoom the map to explore marks in the vicinity.
  • Tap any mark pin to view its summary card.
  • Use the search bar again to refine your search by mark name or ID within the area.
tip

Address search is particularly useful when planning fieldwork. Search for the job site address first, then identify which control marks are nearby.

Address result types

Mapbox geocoding returns several types of results:

  • Street addresses — specific numbered addresses
  • Suburbs and localities — broader area names
  • Points of interest — named places, landmarks, and features
  • Postcodes — postal code areas

All result types centre the map on the corresponding location, allowing you to browse nearby marks.

Limitations

  • Address search requires an internet connection for Mapbox geocoding.
  • Results depend on Mapbox's address database coverage for Australia.
  • The geocoded location is approximate — it represents the address, not a survey mark.
  • Address search does not filter marks; it only repositions the map. Use Filters to narrow the displayed marks.
