Coordinate search

Benchmrk allows you to search by geographic coordinates to navigate the map to a specific location. This is useful when you have known coordinates from a survey plan, GIS dataset, or field notes.

Supported coordinate formats

Benchmrk accepts coordinates in the following datums and projections:

Geographic coordinates (latitude/longitude)

  • GDA2020 — Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 (EPSG:7844)
  • GDA94 — Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 (EPSG:4283)

Enter coordinates as decimal degrees. For example:

  • Latitude: -33.8688
  • Longitude: 151.2093

How to search by coordinates

  1. Tap the Search bar on the map screen.
  2. Enter your coordinates in one of the supported formats.
  3. The map centres on the specified location.
  4. Survey control marks in the visible area are displayed.

tip

When entering coordinates from a survey plan, check which datum the plan references. GDA2020 and GDA94 coordinates can differ by approximately 1.8 metres, which matters for precise mark location.

info

The difference between GDA2020 and GDA94 coordinates is typically around 1.5 to 1.8 metres across Australia due to tectonic plate movement. Always verify which datum your source coordinates reference.

After searching

Once the map is centred on your coordinates, you can:

  • Browse nearby survey marks displayed on the map.
  • Tap any mark pin to view its details.
  • Use Filters to show only specific mark types.
  • Initiate Navigation to a nearby mark.
