The layer manager gives you control over the map's appearance and which marks are visible. Access it by tapping the Layer button on the map screen.

Basemap switching

Benchmrk offers two basemap styles:

Hybrid

Satellite imagery with road labels, place names, and boundary overlays. Best for:

  • Identifying physical features around a mark location
  • Navigating in areas without clear road networks
  • Verifying mark positions against aerial imagery

Terrain

A topographic basemap showing elevation contours, land cover, and road networks. Best for:

  • Understanding the terrain and elevation around marks
  • Planning access routes in hilly or mountainous areas
  • Working in rural or bushland environments

To switch between styles, tap the corresponding basemap thumbnail in the layer manager panel.

Mark visibility by type

The layer manager allows you to control which mark types are displayed on the map. This is useful when working in areas with many marks and you only need to see specific types.

tip

Combine the layer manager with Filters for more granular control over which marks appear on the map. The layer manager controls visual display, while filters control which marks are fetched from the API.

Using the layer manager effectively

  • Switch to Hybrid when you need satellite context for locating marks in the field.
  • Switch to Terrain when planning routes or assessing access to marks in varied terrain.
  • Toggle mark types on and off to reduce visual clutter when working in dense mark areas.
