Search Returns No Results

You run a search and get nothing back. This is almost always one of three things: wrong jurisdiction, unexpected ID format, or hidden mark types.

Possible Causes

CauseWhat HappensResolution
Wrong Jurisdiction selectedThe search only queries data for the active jurisdiction. A valid NSW mark won't appear if VIC is selected.Switch to the correct jurisdiction using the dropdown in the header, then re-run your search.
Mark ID format mismatchEach jurisdiction uses its own ID conventions. Searching PM 12345 won't match if the actual ID is PM12345 (no space).Check the exact format used by the jurisdiction. Try partial matching — enter just the numeric portion and review the suggestions.
Layer Manager filters hiding resultsIf a Survey Mark type is toggled off in the Layer Manager, marks of that type are excluded from search results.Open the Layer Manager panel and ensure the relevant mark types are enabled.

Step-by-Step Resolution

  1. Verify your jurisdiction — Confirm the jurisdiction dropdown matches the state or territory where the mark is located.
  2. Simplify your query — Remove spaces, dashes, or prefixes and search with just the core identifier. The search supports partial matching.
  3. Check Layer Manager visibility — Open the Layer Manager and make sure all mark types you expect to find are toggled on.
  4. Try a different Search Mode — If mark search fails, try searching by address or coordinates near the expected location to confirm data exists in that area.
tip

If you recently switched jurisdictions, the map and search index update automatically — but double-check the dropdown to be sure.
