PDF Export Failures

Benchmrk can generate PDF reports for survey mark data and exports. When PDF generation fails or the download doesn't start, here's what to check.

Possible Causes

CauseSymptomsResolution
Browser popup blockerExport triggers but no download appearsPDF exports may open in a new tab. Allow popups from the Benchmrk domain.
Large dataset timeoutExport starts but fails or hangsExporting a large number of marks can exceed the generation timeout. Try exporting a smaller selection.
Jurisdiction-specific availabilityExport option is greyed out or missingNot all export formats are available in every jurisdiction. Check Export Capabilities for per-jurisdiction availability.
Network interruptionExport fails partway throughCheck your internet connection and retry. PDF generation happens server-side, so a stable connection is needed to receive the result.
Subscription tier limitationExport blocked with an upgrade promptSome export features are limited to paid tiers. Check your subscription level.

Step-by-Step Resolution

  1. Check for a blocked popup notification — Most browsers show a small icon in the address bar when a popup is blocked. Click it to allow the popup.
  2. Add Benchmrk to your allowlist:
    • Chrome: Click the blocked popup icon → "Always allow popups from this site"
    • Firefox: Click the notification bar → "Allow popups for this site"
    • Safari: Preferences → Websites → Pop-up Windows → Allow for Benchmrk
  3. Retry the export after allowing popups.

Large Dataset Timeouts

If you're exporting data for many marks:

  1. Reduce the scope — Filter your results or select fewer marks before exporting.
  2. Export in batches — If you need all the data, export in smaller groups.
  3. Try during off-peak hours — Server load can affect generation time.

Jurisdiction-Specific Reports

Different jurisdictions provide different report types:

JurisdictionAvailable Report Types
NSWPDF sketch plans, survey information
VICTIFF images, survey data reports
QLDPDF survey plans
OtherVaries — check the exports dropdown for available options

If the report type you need isn't available for your jurisdiction, it may not be provided by that state's survey authority.

tip

If a PDF export fails, check your browser's download manager — the file may have downloaded but been flagged or saved to an unexpected location.
